Andrés Segovia, was born on February 18, 1894, in the town of Linares, province of Jaén, Spain. Son of a humble carpenter, it is likely that had he been raised with him he would never have been able to follow his musical vocation. However, fate wanted to put it in the hands of some uncles who enjoyed a comfortable economic position ... And even then, things were not so simple. The refrain repeated in the childhood of many of the great musicians of history, is that their relatives did not see with good eyes their artistic desires. And Andrés Segovia was no exception. For him, the family wanted the job of pharmacist, for which he had no choice but to study guitar alone and secretly. To this, it should be added that in the years of his childhood, the guitar was a belittled instrument, as it was considered typical of the gypsies and their dancers. His first teacher was a flamenco barber who ripped the strings of the guitar with good taste. Later, during adolescence, he was at the Music Institute of Granada, where the experience gradually expanded the flow of resources that allowed him to improve his performance. And even over the years, already become the greatest classical guitarist in the world, Andrés Segovia was still in preparation stage. He never stopped studying and practicing the guitar at least five hours a day. His taste for the instrument and the interest he placed in his learning, led him to move quickly. In 1910, when he was 16 years old, he gave his first concert in the Spanish city of Granada, where he presented a repertoire he had formed with scores found in libraries and adaptations to works by the great musicians. Although he continued to offer recitals, it was a presentation offered in Madrid in 1913 that Segovia considered his debut. Since he did not have a good guitar, he decided to rent it and the result was a resounding success. Eleven years later, in Paris, he would present himself as an international virtuoso. He was 31 years old and was the best guitarist in the world. In addition, he was fond of reading; the books of philosophy and history were his favorites. Even in the seventies, he had begun to write his memoirs, which was entitled "The guitar and me". Andrés Segovia was married three times during the 94 years he lived. The first two times he was widowed, and his third wife, Emilia del Corral, whom he affectionately called Emilita, was forty-five years younger than him and accompanied him until the last moment of his life. After many presentations, recognitions and applause throughout the world, the King of Spain awarded him in 1981 the title of Marquis of Salobreña. Six years later, Segovia was working on his inquest speech as an "honoris causa" doctor, when he was surprised by death. He was 94 years old, most of them dedicated to his passion: the guitar. ~• ~ All images and music are copyrighted to their respective owners. This video is for entertainment only, non profit. ~• ~
