Orthodoxy and Shakespeare | Public Lecture

The Very Reverend Archimandrite Father Daniel (Toyne), who is visiting the Saint Photios Orthodox Theological Seminary from England, will be presenting a lecture entitled “Orthodoxy and Shakespeare.” Join us for an exploration of Ben Johnson's profound observation that Shakespeare's works transcend their time, speaking to all ages. Through a close reading of select texts, this talk will examine Shakespeare's theological position and its evolution, focusing on two themes particularly resonant with Orthodox readers: forgiveness, as seen in 'The Tempest' and 'The Winter's Tale', and the passions, as depicted in 'Othello' and 'Antony and Cleopatra'.
