We are going to talk about what Embers Adrift is, what it offers and all the details, so stick with me until the end. As many of you know, I've been playing, streaming and enjoying Embers Adrift, and it's old school MMO qualities make it a ton of fun for me. I've enjoyed their world and exploring it has been a gem. I'm especially fond of the tab-target old school combat and the tank aggro system and gathering up ingredients I can use to make my abilities more potent. Being that Embers Adrift is made by an Indie Developer, a very small team, their updates weekly have been extremely meaty adding more dungeons, zones, quests, lore and adventure to their MMO. They have also gathered a very dedicated and helpful community, meaning that the grouping and playing with others is much more enjoyable in Embers Adrift especially when you compare it to other MMO offerings we've had over the years. I respect that Embers Adrift has open public dungeons and decided to not go with instancing, this makes the places feel much more dynamic and interesting as other players in their dungeons causes interactions and people working together and exciting moments that just aren't possible in an instanced environment. Embers Adrift has a long road ahead of it to get to a point that it will appeal to a larger audience due to a couple of issues : namely, they need magic in the game, as of now it has a very low fantasy feel to it. All of the armor (which is layered on you by the way and something I do enjoy), but it's all very realistic and it's heavy. You can't just slap full plate gear on your tank immediately, it will lower your speed to a crawl, you have to work at it as you level up and get stronger you can start wearing more. Embers Adrift is also a very slow burn MMO, in other words, it takes a long time to get to higher end levels, especially when compared to most MMOs that have released in the last 20 years. If you want to get to a high level, it's going to take dedication and a lot of time. Soloing is absolutely possible, but Grouping is the name of the game if you want to progress at a reasonable rate. But they do make it easy for you to know what you can solo vs what you need other for with their chevron system. This system places arrows beside a mob's name, 1 arrow is good for solo as long as it cons in your range : green or blue should be a safe bet for example. 2 chevrons and you might need a friend, 3 and you are going to need a few friends. The arrows and the color of the mob are combined so that you can strategize what you and your group can handle. Mix this in with a dangerous world and for an old school MMO player, we have a winner.
