Understanding Vijayanagara Style of Temple Architecture - Heritage Documentation Madhavaraya Temple

India is a country with a long history and a very rich cultural and architectural heritage. To understand this fact better, students of architecture are required to visit and study many monuments. Curriculum of the B.Arch course gives an introduction to the various styles of Indian Architecture with one or two best representatives of each style. But the country has many temples or monuments in remote towns and villages which are unidentified and undocumented. This situation gives a great opportunity to explore many unidentified monuments and document them for learning and archival purposes. Students of Architecture learn many things by visiting monuments, carrying out architectural studies and documenting the architectural and sculptural details on the site in the form of drawings, sketches and photographs etc. These exercises give a deep insight and thorough understanding of the architecture of these monuments/temples. One such heritage documentation project was taken up by the faculty and students of the IV Sem B.Arch, R.V. College of Architecture Bengaluru during their vacation period in Sep 2021. The project was carried out as a two days field visit to Gorantla, Madhavaraya Temple and all drawings were completed as part of studio work after the students returned to college.
