I travelled from the UK through United Arab Emirates to Mauritius. No airport were interested in my LIPO battery that I was carrying in my hand luggage. On my return, I was in transit and was waiting in Dubai (UAE), when security pulled me and my LIPO battery to the side. They said I would not be allowed to travel with it and they were taking it for destruction. They said the battery was too big, too dangerous. I explained that 2 weeks before that I had got through fine. They would not accept that this happened. Dubai Airport Security were in charge, not Emirates airline. I explained other airports had no issue, but they just kept saying it was too big. In the end after explaining the value of the battery they spoke with Emirates Airline and it was agreed that I had to escort the LIPO battery from security to the departure gate. It took over 3hrs to sort this. Where did my LIPO go in the end? Who knows, Emirates told me that it would stay in the cabin of the aircraft, yet at the end of the journey, no cabin crew knew anything about it. I suspect it ended up in the luggage compartment of the aircraft as the envelope came back beaten and very dirty. Lots of people do not seem to have issues with putting LIPO batteries in their hand luggage. Dubai Airport do not like this at all and will take it from you if its a 6 cell battery.
