Japan’s Toyosu Fish Market - Best Sushi: Sushi Dai

If you're looking for the best sushi at Japan's brand new Toyosu Fish Market, the top rated, most popular (simply based on the lines), and arguably the highest quality sushi you can get is at Sushi Dai. This video will show you exactly you're going to get before braving the 3-4 hour line. The Menu: "Omakase Set ("test the chef" course) - 4,500 yen ($41USD at the time of this video) The chef will select the best choices of the day. Additionally, you can choose on extra nigiri item, whatever you want. 9 + 1 pieces of nigiri sushi, sushi rolls, rolled egg, miso soup." The following list is the sushi served during my visit in November, which includes both the Omakase set plus three additional sushi pieces ordered afterward: 1. Toro (Fatty Tuna) Miso Soup 2. Hata (Grouper) 3. Tai (Japanese Sea Bream or Red Snapper) Tamago (Egg) 4. Ikura (Salmon Roe) 5. Sanma (Pacific Saury) 6. Akagai (Surf Clam) 7. Maguro (Bluefin Tuna) 8. Sawara (Spanish Mackerel) Rolls 9. Anago (Saltwater Eel) 10. Kuruma Ebi (Japanese Imperial Prawn) Subtotal: 4500 Yen Extra: Hamachi (Yellowtail) Uni (Sea Urchin) Nodoguro (Blackthroat Seaperch) Total: 6550 yen Overall, I rate the Omakase set a 9/10, with the notable exceptions being the Sanma and Sawara pieces getting a 10/10 rating (these pieces can be transformative if you've never tasted what really fresh saury and mackerel tastes like). The Hamachi is an 8/10 (very fresh, but nothing exceptional), and the Uni is also a solid 8/10 (fresh, clean and sweet, but nothing to rave about). The Nodoguro was an off-menu piece that was recommended by the chef and gets an 8/10 (it tasted like a cross between several whitefish species and did not have any distinct flavor of its own). Note: The Toyosu Market is Tokyo's new fish market (replacing the former Tsukiji Fish Market) which opened into the general public on Oct 13 of 2018.
