From Hamlet to Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, the Academy Award for Best Costume Design has welcomed 90 films, 60 of which have been period/historical, 8 fantasy and 20 contemporary. The job of a costume designer, to seamlessly dress the characters based on their personality and experience is understated, and sometimes, misunderstood work. Why look past the Oscar in their field to pay tribute to some of these designs. I wanted to pace these clips, just so you can get a detailed impression of the work, it might be a bit overlong, but it's the only vid I can find on here that incorporates the B&W Oscars. Maybe it could be a good tool for the right people too. Music from Laurent Dury's 'Cinematic Elegance.' The songs are, in order: "The Great and the Good," "Ripples in Time," "Moonlight Tryst," "The Dancer in the Keyhole" and "By Night." All Winners Hamlet | 1948 | B&W Roger K.
