MORE ABOUT THE PROJECT: Since the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Tamizdat Project has been dedicated to supporting students and scholars displaced by war or repressions. In 2023, we organized our first fundraising campaign and book auction that featured hundreds of émigré first editions and books signed or inscribed by contemporary authors ranging from Nobel Prize Laureate Svetlana Alexievich to rapper and “foreign agent” Noize MC. As a result, we succeeded in helping 20 students continue their studies in the U.S. We bring together prominent authors in exile committed to help today’s refugees, much as we wish no such effort was ever necessary: Svetlana Alexievich, director of the Harvard Ukrainian Research Institute Serhii Plokhy, journalists Katerina Gordeeva, Elena Kostyuchenko and Alexander Genis, writers Boris Akunin, Polina Barskova, Maria Stepanova, Tomas Venclova, and dozens of other world-famous authors, artists, musicians, journalists, public intellectuals, and academics who have signed or inscribed their books for our cause. We are also excited to offer you the opportunity to bid on the first editions of authors like Vladimir Nabokov, Osip and Nadezhda Mandelshtam, Anna Akhmatova, Lydia Chukovskaya, Natalia Gorbanevskaya, Andrei Sinyavsky and Yuli Daniel, Alexander Solzhenitsyn and Varlam Shalamov, Sergei Dovlatov and Joseph Brodsky, Aleksandr Galich and Bulat Okudzhava, Evgeny Zamyatin and even George Orwell, to name but a few. Please buy these books and join our effort to help the young generation of scholars when they most need it! The auction opened on Monday, April 28, 2025, 10:00 am EDT, and will close on Sunday, May 18, 2025, at 9 pm EDT.
