It's a process that shows how living beings are connected by what they eat. Food chains can be classified based on the habitats in which the living beings that make them up obtain their food. The living beings in these habitats form food chains, so we say there are two types: terrestrial food chains and aquatic food chains. There's another way to classify them, too. On one hand, we have the green food chains, also called predator food chains or grazing food chains. The first link is a producer that is alive and usually makes its own food through photosynthesis. On the other hand, we have the detritus food chains (brown). They are so named because they don't start with living plants, but with dead things.
