(please click, show more') The UK mass-market satellite TV revolution begins, with 4 channels from Sky (Sky Channel - eventually called Sky One - Sky News, Eurosport and - presumably to expensively drive demand - a temporarily-free-to-air Sky Movies)! What we have here is you would have seen had you owned a satellite dish and receiver at the time. Complete with ad breaks and programme trails for that authentic 'pioneer' experience! Worth it for the documentary, which amongst other things emphasises satellite TV's ability to reach those poorly-served by the terrestrial transmitters. Of course, we had to wait nearly 10 years before Sky Digital brought these 'back-of-beyond' viewers the channels they were really after (and even then, ITV was still some time away from joining the platform).
