On the first day of the Battle of Hampton Roads, this new weapon is unleashed against the Federal fleet, wreaking havoc in the waters around Fort Monroe and Norfolk. However, on the second day, the Union Navy lets loose its own ironclad warship - the USS Monitor, against the Virginia. The ensuing naval action will have a resounding effect on the history of naval warfare, as all navies across the globe look to the clash of ironclads in Hampton Roads.
