Spider facts: what is a spider? | Animal Fact Files

Spiders are generally feared but they're so beneficial! Spiders help to keep insect populations down, insects who might otherwise take over the world and destroy all that we love. Spiders have eight legs (as opposed to an insects six legs) and come equipped with spinnerets which produce silk. All spiders produce silk, not all spiders build intricate webs. Some spiders use their silk for other purposes, too, like traveling on the wind! Spiders live almost everywhere, though they aren't known from Antarctica or most ocean habitats (some live in tidal areas and even shelter in their homes which are washed over during high tide). These arachnids can be as small as the head of a pin or larger than a human hand! Scientific Name: Order - Araneae Range: worldwide except Antarctica and the ocean Size: less than 1mm to 4 inches (10cm) Diet: insects, other invertebrates, small reptiles, birds and mammals Lifespan: less than a year to more than a decade ✨ Animal Fact Files Patreon Supporters get early access to videos, get their video requests moved to the top of our request list, and more! ✨ 👉   / animalfactfiles   You can learn more on: Twitter -   / animalfactfiles   Facebook -   / animalfactfiles   --- Norbert Schuller Baupi - https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Fi...
