Parents often ask “What’s the best toy to help my child with hearing loss?” Here’s a little secret: it's not about the toy! It’s all about HOW a parent uses toys and playtime! Why? Because playtime is how babies learn! It helps to build confidence, relationships, and basic skills. And parents are the secret to making playtime even more effective and engaging for a little one to learn and grow. There are some special Listening and Spoken Language (LSL) strategies and techniques you can use to help a child with hearing loss learn to listen and talk during playtime! This video will explain how to make playtime learning time. So, let’s play the LSL way! 🌟 Follow your child’s lead. Talk about what they’re doing and join in! 🌟 Imitate what they’re doing. Repeat their movements and talk about what they’re doing. 🌟 Use LSL strategies like Hear It Before You See It (eye contact before ear contact) and Play-By-Play (act like a sports commentator giving a play-by-play description of what’s going on). Remember, playing the LSL way is about strategies and engaging with your child. Any toy (or cardboard box) can be used to build your baby’s brain when used to create those meaningful interactions!
