Sudatta/Shen-shi/ Parsohana village (Huen Tsang page 3): In the first paragraph of page three, Huen Tsang writes, “Still east of this (Mahsi) is a stupa to record the site of the house of ‘Sudatta’ (Shen-shi).” Huen Tsang doesn’t say anything more about this village. By the statement, “East of this is a stupa,” Huen Tsang means east of Mahsi bazaar. East of Mahsi village and bazar is a little village by the name of ‘Parsohana’. ‘Sohana’ sounds very similar to Huen Tsangs original mispronounced word ‘Shen-shi’. We now know the first three letters namely ‘Par’ means on top as it means a stupa which marks the spot of an important place. So Sohana is definitely Huen Tsangs ‘Shen-shi’ as it is four kilometers east to Mahsi village. This means Sudatta is a Buddhist mispronunciation of Sohana. The entire village is on a mud mound which is certainly the stupa that Huen Tsang writes about. The stupa has lost its circular shape due to humans living on it and their habit of throwing waste outside homes. One will realize that the villagers are not monetarily in a position to do such mud filling on which their homes are. This was done by rich people in history. Sudatta was the man who bought Jetavan with gold for the Buddha. The name Parsohana tells us his actual name is Sohana. Sohana is a common rural name. In the rural language the word for gold is sona. The village name Sohana and sona sound similar. We must remember Sudatta was involved in a story where an enormous amount of gold was involved and his name is Sohana which sounds similar to Sona. There is a possibility he got the name Sohana because he bought Jetavan paying an enormous amount of Sona. I mean gold. Or it can be vice versa. Gold was named after him. This proves Parsohana next to Mahsi is certainly the sight of Sudatta’s house. The next stupa, namely the stupa of Angulimaal, is proof that Parsohana is Sudatta’s house. Buddha, Buddhism.
