As soon as he steps on the court, Nikola Jokic does something extraordinary. I had to collect all the genius moments from this season and put them in one video so we can all enjoy his brilliance. Here’s another behind the head no-look pass to Gordon, but this time in transition with 2 guys chasing him. It’s like he has another set of eyes on the back of his head, there’s no other logical explanation. Of Course there is an explanation, his court vision is 2nd to none. Watch how he’s keeping his options open and has 2 possible targets at all times, but always picks the right one. His size, allowing him to look over the defenders shoulders helps him alot. And this is just ridiculous. He hits Braun on the money in the corner without ever turning his head towards him. His wrap-around passes are on a whole nother level. Even Russ started knocking 3’s being so wide open all the time. Matter of fact, he’s having his 2nd most efficient season from long-range in his career. He gotta thank the Joker for that. And teams just won’t learn to stop staring at him, look at the Lakers. All 5 players are caught ball watching, resulting in some easy points for Gordon. Speaking of that, Aaron benefits the most from playing with Jokic. I can’t tell if this was a missed floater or a lob pass. And the defense didn’t know where to look on this one because… Geez, this man is an artist. Here’s another no-look lob, this time to Jamal Murray. And when Jamal who’s an 89% free throw shooter was on the line with 0.5 seconds on the clock, Jokic somehow sensed the miss, sprinted inside and made the buzzer beating tip in. In fact, he made a lot more impressive shots with time winding down as well. His patience on the pick n roll to find the best possible solution is maybe one of his best qualities. He’s freezing 2 defenders without even dribbling the ball. Incredible. And once in a while he puts his head down and does this. To be honest, the Joker pleasantly surprised us with multiple rim rockers this season. He’s not much of a dunker I’ll give you that, but his footwork is impeccable. For a guy his size he’s extremely quick around the basket. With his sudden spin rolling to the rim, Jokic leaves much more athletic bigs in the dust. Maan, I can watch him toying with the defense all day long. And by now, the full court passes have become his trademark. Thing is, he’s dishing 2 to 3 amazing assists each and every game, it’s hard to keep a track. In the last MVP showdown, against Shai and OKC, Nikola really brought his A game. They splitted the season series 2-2 with SGA averaging 30.2 ppg / 5 rpg / 6.5 apg on 49% FG while Jokic posted 24.5 ppg / 15.7 rpg / 11.5 apg on 52.6% efficiency in the 4 games played. For the season, Nikola is averaging a triple double while being in the top 3 in the league in points, rebounds and assists. That has never been done before. And while many are okay with giving the MVP to Shai this season, following narratives and voter’s fatigue and what not, I’m sure that looking back at this 5 to 10 years from now it will look like0 the biggest crime in NBA history. And in my 26 years of watching the NBA, I’ve never seen anything similar to the insane ending between the Bulls and the Lakers, just a couple of days ago. If you haven’t you must check it out.
