Backpacking Mammoth to Yosemite - John Muir Trail NOBO section hike #3,

After backpacking the entire John Muir Trail going Southbound in September of 2019, we decided we also want to hike the JMT Northbound. So far, we've done two other NOBO sections (that you can find in our video library). This is our third section toward completing that goal. This time, our good buddy Hank decided to join us! This was his furthest backing trip to date, and it was a true pleasure having him along. In August 2023, we set off from the Duck Lake trailhead in Mammoth Lakes, CA on a 6 day, 5 night adventure into the beautiful Sierra Nevada back country along the JMT. 83.5 miles later, we ended up at Happy Isles, in Yosemite Valley. This trip included some beautiful parts of Mammoth Lakes, Red's Meadow, Garnet & Thousand Island Lakes, Island Pass, Donohue Pass, Lyell Canyon, Tuolumne Meadows and throughout Yosemite. If you would like to hike the John Muir Trail Northbound, but can't do the whole thing at once, due to timing, work, physical fitness, or otherwise- we highly recommend this section hike. This coming August 2024, we'll be completing our final section going NOBO, hiking from Horseshoe Meadows to Onion Valley via Kearsarge Pass (super hard to get a permit from Whitney portal).
