Cloud point (LCST temperature) measurements play a pivotal role in understanding the phase-transitions that occur in polymer solutions4. A class of polymers called the thermoresponsive polymers exhibit interesting phenomena during phase transitions. During a phase transition, the solution will become cloudy if it is a clear solution, upon changing its temperature. The vice versa also happens. This is linked to Lower-Critical solution temperature(LCST) and Upper-Critical Solution Temperature(UCST) of the polymer5{7. LCST is the temperature above which the solution starts appearing turbid and UCST is the temperature above which the solution turns transparent. In both cases, a transparent solution means miscibility in all proportions. There are a variety of methods to determine the LCST and UCST of polymers8,9. Visual inspection is the easiest method to estimate LCST but this is only qualitative. Turbidimetry is used to estimate the variations in visibility and thereby estimate the transition. Commercial turbidometers are not suitable for this purpose as this needs a coupling to a precise temperature controller. The setup which combines the working of a turbidometer and a temperature controller has been described in [9]. How- ever, this setup poses certain limitations which shall be explained in the forthcoming sections.
