Netscape 6.2, specifically 6.2.1, was released DAYS after Windows XP launched. So, let's check it out, almost 22 years later, on Windows 2000! Netscape 6.2 was released as one of the many patches for Netscape 6, which was prone to stability issues. This wasn't the first time Netscape had issues with performance and stability, for example, Netscape Navigator 3 Gold came with more than just a browser (presumably), and the Netscape suite, in this version, had performance issues on lower-end Windows systems. Netscape 6 succeeded Netscape 4, with Netscape 5 being "skipped", that actually being more like issues present during Netscape 5's development, thus resulting in Netscape 5 being skipped. There are, presumably, early pre-release builds of Netscape 5, however if I ever cover them, it's another story for another day. This video demonstrates Netscape 6.2.1 on Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional SP4, using offline sites and no internet connection whatsoever. That's because it's a bad idea to hook Windows 2000 and Whistler up to the Internet (due to their outdated versions of Internet Explorer being a prime target for malware attacks), so what I've done instead is saved various websites (most being from the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine), and rounded up some of my other offline web pages, and used those for demonstration so we can kinda get an idea of what it was like to be using Netscape and other similar browsers from this time. Netscape 6 would be succeeded by Netscape 7, which was heavily ignored and the final version of Netscape to be developed by the actual company. The Netscape name would be kept around for the Firefox-based browser (ironic, given that Firefox was originally one of the closest things to a spiritual successor to Netscape) with Netscape Browser (Netscape 8) in 2005 and Netscape Navigator 9 in 2007, before AOL killed off the Netscape browser in 2008.
