Manchester City neatly closed the gap on Premier League leaders Arsenal to just one point, with a game at hand, following a comfortable win over Brighton at the Amex Stadium. What seemed like a potentially tricky match was effectively settled by half-time when City surged to a 3-0 lead, overtaking Liverpool to reach second place as they loomed closer to Arsenal. Kevin de Bruyne's exceptional headed goal - the first of his 68 in the Premier League - soared into the top corner, kickstarting City's domination. Phil Foden then controversially added a second goal nine minutes later, with Brighton feeling further aggrieved as Foden's free-kick took a deflection off Pascal Gross, leaving goalkeeper Jason Steele stranded. Brighton's hopes of a comeback were dashed after just 34 minutes by a sleek finish from Foden into the bottom corner. Roberto de Zerbi's side found themselves simply trying to limit the damage, but City increased their lead just over an hour into the game. A challenge between Steele and Kyle Walker saw the ball slip away, allowing Julian Alvarez to capitalize for City.
