Rice is one of the best known and oldest dishes in the world, being quite popular in several countries. At lunch for some, including, you can't miss it, right? Over the years and cultivation techniques have allowed us to see the emergence of the most varied types of grain, and that is exactly what we will talk about here. Next, we will list the main types of rice that we can find around the globe and the differences between them. Do you know them all? 1 - White rice. This is the most common in some countries and also what, according to many, goes perfectly with the acclaimed bean. Both its color and its texture are characteristic due to the refinement process used in its production. In addition, white rice is rich in simple carbohydrates and has a high energy value. 2 - Arboreal rice. Unlike white rice, arborio rice is shorter. Due to its softer consistency and even creamy texture, it is perfect for use in risottos, rice pudding and soups. Another important point is the fact that it has some B vitamins in its composition. 3 - Brown rice. Brown rice presents the grain in the most "raw" form, since it does not undergo any type of refinement and its husk is not removed. It is commonly added to diets because it is richer in nutritional properties than white rice, in addition to having calcium, iron, phosphorus and B vitamins. 4 - Black rice. Black rice is very popular in Mediterranean cuisine and has short, rounded grains, in addition to a slightly brownish flavor. Among its main characteristics are the fact that it is rich in fiber, magnesium and vitamins, in addition to having a low fat content and presenting an antioxidant action. 5 - Red rice. Red rice arrived in Brazil during the period of colonization of our country by the Portuguese, and in the same way that brown rice also does not go through the refinement process. It features more antioxidant substances in its composition, in addition to containing plenty of iron and fiber – that is, an excellent replacement for white rice. 6 - Basmati rice. Basmati rice is not so easily found in conventional markets, and has longer grains compared to common white rice. It is widely used in Indian and Asian cuisines. 7 - Japanese rice. As the name implies, this type of rice is widely used in the land of the Japanese, having shorter grains and a very specific texture. Depending on the variation of this grain, it can have minerals, B complex vitamins and fibers, with practically the same properties as common rice. 8 - Parboiled rice. This type of rice is pre-cooked before going through its polishing process, which causes it to lose part of the fibers. Despite not having the same nutritional quality that we find in brown rice, it still brings good doses of vitamins B1, B3, B6, magnesium and potassium in its composition.
