David McHugh - Rain Song

While camping in rural New Jersey, a storm moved in and flooded our tent. There was a farmhouse nearby so we decided to ask for shelter from the storm. A woman opened the door and amazingly turned out to be a friend of my companion's from college. After the screaming, huggins, OMGs, etc., she and her boyfriend invited us to spend the weekend. The rain never stopped and, being in the remote woods without TV or computers (1971), there was nothing much to do. I found an old guitar with a missing string and composed the Rain Song that weekend. Following it being included in a children's school music book series, it became the favorite of the series and I received hundreds of letters from 3rd. graders from all over America. More recently, I've been contacted by the same 3rd. graders who now have children of their own and would like to teach them the song. It turned out to be one of the best highlights of my career. There are two versions that are combined as one: the first is a very early recording and the second is a more recent one that I made in response to all the recent requests for the song. I'm singing both versions and it's funny to hear the change of my voice from the young me to the older me. Lyric: The rain just keeps on falling and the sky is colored grey the birds don’t stop their singing cause it’s just another day and the clouds keep passing over bringing rain to flowers below while the sun keeps waiting patiently to unveil its golden glow sometimes sun shines and other times it rains but to me it’s all the same to me it’s all the same
