The best way I've found to explain it is to tell you my summary of the book entitled "Lean Thinking". The book was written by Womak and Jones in 1996 and is approximately 400 pages long. If I had to summarize the basic concept, Lean Thinking is a way of thinking about the organization of companies to achieve efficient and adequate management for competitive challenges. The book's subtitle also emphasizes another fundamental concept. "Banish Waste and Create Wealth in Your Corporation" The book demonstrates with many real examples, how much this approach to organization company is universally applicable with extraordinary results. ▶ Lean Principles In this book, the 5 principles to follow are theorized in order to accomplish a lean transformation. The five principles are: 1. Identify Value 2. Map the Value Stream 3. Create Flow 4. Establish Pull 5. Seek Perfection The principles are still valid and reported on the website www dot lean dot org. We often hear about Lean Manufacturing and Lean Production and not Lean Thinking. This glossary might suggest that the Lean methodology applies only to companies that produce physical goods such as cars or washing machines. This is not the case, because real applications in many fields are described in the book. The book starts with a simple case of a small company that produces packaging machinery. Then it moves on to an average company that produces cables and then moves on to a large multinational that produces aircraft engines. The three companies described in this part of the book are American. The reader may therefore think that Lean Thinking works for companies of all sizes but only in the USA. Womack and Jones, then move on to describe the case of Porsche in Europe and they even come to Japan to demonstrate Lean Thinking has no geographical boundaries. Towards the end of the book, the authors give a detailed action plan to implement the lean methodology in 24 steps and 5 years of constant work. ▶ Lean Thinking in Any Field Finally, the authors hypothesize the application of Lean Thinking many years in advance to airports, healthcare, construction, and large-scale distribution. Today we are starting to talk about Lean Thinking in many fields such as: Lean Construction Lean Healthcare Lean Banking Lean Accounting etc. All these branches have Lean Thinking as their sole root. ▶ Conclusions After reading Lean Thinking by Womack and Jones, you realize that the implementation of the lean methodology has no boundaries of company size, it has no boundaries of product types, and has no geographical boundaries. In other words, Lean Thinking is a way of rethinking organizations by creating value and removing waste. 👉 Learn Lean Manufacturing Faster https://www.leanvlog.com/greatest-lea... ツ CONNECT WITH ME ツ Hi, my name is Mark Anderson a 20+ year Lean Expert.
