HAND of DEATH & LAST HURRAH FOR CHIVALRY John Woo Collection OFFICIAL Trailer HD

HAND of DEATH & LAST HURRAH FOR CHIVALRY John Woo Collection OFFICIAL Trailer HD If you're a serious martial arts movie buff then this is a must for you. Now is your chance to get this in a glorious 2k restoration on Blu-Ray from Eureka Video. Most people in the west know John Woo for his high action pictures with Jean Claude Van Damme in Hard Target and John Travolta and Nicholas Cage in Face Off but early in John Woo's career as a director in Hong Kong, not only did he have the opportunity to make Kung Fu films, but also to direct three of the up and coming stars of the genre in Yuen Biao, Jackie Chan and Sammo Hung in their first movie together Hand of Death (1976: Chinese a.k.a. Shaolin Gate). Although not much was not made of this at the time because they were all struggling to make a career. Hand of Death The Star of this film is Dorian Tan Tao-Liang stars as Yun Fei a Shaolin trained fighter looking to find Zhang Yi (John Woo) and escort him through White Stone town and across the White River. Zhang holds a map of all Qing bases in the Guangdong and Guangxi provinces in southeast China. He tries to get hold of Zhang by contacting pupil Chiu Guo. However, when he is found, he has already been arrested and about to be beheaded by the Manchus led by a traitor of the Shaolin Shih Xiaofeng (James Tien: Big Boss, Fist of Fury and Game of Death) who has taught himself White Crane Soul Chaser Style and is the Hand of Death. Even though his Kung Fu is superior, he has the additional help of Eight Bodyguards with different styles and two top ranking guards in Smiling Fox and Du Ching (played by Sammo Hung who also did the stunt coordination and whose overbite is quite outstanding literally) he is trained in tiger and crane styles. Jackie Chan was only supposed to be a stunt man (he was hired by his "big brother" Sammo Hung). However, John Woo found one of the Korean actors lacking physically, and he replaced him with Jackie Chan expanding his role and changing the whole script to focus more on him and show off his great martial arts skills. Jackie originally had been the stunt coordinator for Woo's first film Young Dragons (1975) that came out a year earlier. Jackie did get hurt on the film, getting knocked unconscious after being pulled by a cable while being kicked by Dorian Tan and landing and hitting his head on a rock. Last Hurrah for Chivalry A classic John Woo Kung Fu movie that is all period swordplay. Arguably a defining Golden Harvest film, it looks very different from similar films then being done at the rival Shaw Bros. studio. Even then, back in the day, Woo was displaying a directorial talent that set him apart from the Shaw Bros. directors; the photography and editing here display a cinematic gloss comparable to the Japanese samurai films of the time. The movie scene is set when Pai Kang (Lee Hoi San) interrupts Kong’s Lau’s marriage, for revenge because Kong's father had stolen the villa from him. Kong employs Cheng San (Wei Pai, a sometime Shaw Bros. star), a notable fighter and Green Suit (Damian Lau) D, a hard-drinking wanderer who joins him on a quest to kill Pai Kang and avenge Kong's father’s death, and leads to an their ultimate betrayal by the mutual friend who has manipulated them into battle. The fight scenes are consistently exciting and are sprinkled throughout a well-developed storyline with a set of intriguing characters. The fight choreography is impressive, but the great Kung Fu villains in this piece, particularly those played by Fung Hak On and Lee Hoi San, steal the film. Their work is breath-taking. The extra features includes; Cantonese, Mandarin and English audio options, Optional English subtitles, A brand new audio commentaries by martial-arts cinema authority Mike Leeder, Archival interview with director John Woo, Trailers for both films, Reversible inlay featuring original poster artwork Limited Edition Collectors booklet featuring new writing by film writer Matthew Thrift [First 2000 copies only] Thanks for reading & watching, we hope you enjoyed it, please LIKE, SHARE and don't forget to SUBSCRIBE to World of Martial Arts Television for more great content!!
