It is against the regulations for managing excavations at most engineering firms not to use shoring. Here is a deep excavation on Asghal’s drainage network in Doha, Qatar, without shoring. There is also evidence of subsidence on the far side. Whilst not on video, walking to that side and looking at the bottom showed a large amount of dirt has accumulated bottom of the manhole, whilst men were still working at the bottom. One can hear that the construction supervisor does not recognise the gravity of this and says everything is ok as a geotechnical report falsely states the ground is hard enough not to warrant shoring.
