GROW LIGHT COLOURS: Blue light helps with leafy growth. Blue light helps drive chlorophyll, which is the green in all plant leaves and stems etc. With more chlorophyll, a plant generates more nutrients and grows taller with more leafy vegetation. Stronger concentrations of blue light will encourage sprouting and development of strong roots. Red light is ideal for flowering and fruiting. Yellow light can boost overall growth, especially in early stages, and improve plant health. Purple light is a mix of red and blue, great for younger plants during the seedling stage. White light (full spectrum) is good for general growth. It’s closest to natural sunlight and easy on the eyes if you’re like me and don’t want your home looking like a disco. KELVIN / LUMEN / LUX: KELVINS measure the colour temperature. The higher the Kelvin, the whiter or more blue the light becomes. A lower Kelvin will be more yellow, orange or red. A cloudy sky measures around 6,000K. Direct Sunlight is 4800K. Light bulbs below 2000K would appear similar to candlelight, are dimmer and more yellow. 2000 to 3000K is a soft white with a yellow appearance like you might use in a bedroom or lounge. 3100 to 4000K is better for task lighting like kitchens and offices. 4600 to 6000K is closer to the blue-white light of daylight, where bright illumination is needed, or when you want something lit naturally similar to the way it would be outside. 6500K and higher is a cooler, more blue-tinged light, more often used in commercial locations for very bright task lighting. LUMENS measure the intensity of light. The more lumens, the brighter the light. So for example, The sun, on an overcast day, puts out about 1,000 lumens per square foot. On a bright day, without clouds, direct sunlight delivers 3,000-5,000 lumens per square foot. LUX tells you how intense a grow light is, which helps you know how close or far away your grow light should be from your plants. However you still need to take into account your plant's growth stage and tolerance for bright light. PAR PAR—Photosynthetically Active Radiation—refers to the wavelengths of light that plants actually use for photosynthesis, which falls between 400 and 700 nanometers. It’s basically the light that feeds your plant! As in, it’s not just about how bright the light is, but how useful it is to your plants. A light might have high lumens (brightness), but if it’s not in the PAR range, your plant won’t benefit as much. This is why full-spectrum lights are ideal—they cover the full PAR range, providing all wavelengths that plants need. 📕📕📕 TAKE THESE TO THE PLANT COFFEE SHOP! 📕📕📕 ⇢ Plants Galore!
