Celebrating 11-Years of TEDxKC

TEDxKC was founded on April 6, 2009 when Mike Lundgren applied for the first TEDxKC license. With the tireless help of John Mulvihill and Frank Jurden, our first TEDxKC event was held that August at the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art. With just a $5,000 budget and considerable in-kind sponsorship — 3 speakers and a performer took the stage. 31 events later, many of our speakers have been invited to speak at TED and/or have had their videos promoted to TED.com. Two have been featured on the TED Radio Hour. We have also celebrated many milestones, such as being the largest TEDx event in the world one year, and the largest in the U.S. for a few years running. Two years in a row we sold-out in under 6-minutes — a TED record. Kansas City is our home and our community. 1000's of volunteer hours, dedicated sponsors and a city rabid for intellectual programming. On February 5, 2020 we return to the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts for TEDxKC 2020: (in)VISIBLE.
