So the drawbacks of germanium fuzz... can't place it anywhere but the start of your chain, misbehaves sonically when ambient temperature is not just right, fuzz cleanup needs to be right next to your pickups or it won't function as you expect. This has been the case for generations. Some would say eons. But no more - enter the Benson Fuzz, made by Chris Benson of Benson Amps in Portland, Oregon. It's a germanium two transistor fuzz that breaks the above assumptions. First, let's just get it out of the way that this is probably the best vintage style germanium fuzz I have ever played. And, place it anywhere you want in the chain - the built in buffer normalizes the impedance on the input so that you are no longer beholden to the rules of signal chain order! This means you can safely place an octave, wah or uni-vibe before it with no issues! If it is first in the chain, you can clean it up with your volume knob on your guitar, but if it falls later in the chain - just use the amazing and groundbreaking Impedance knob to simulate a guitar volume knob right on the input of the pedal - this is fantastic if you actually want the fuzz just for the cleanup tones, later in the chain! Or if you want to run a more finicky fuzz without these superpowers first in chain, then this later on. Not only that, the pedal is constantly heating the components up to ideal temperature and no higher so that the germanium is happy and doesn't misbehave and kill your tone right when you need it. As you power the pedal on and play, you will see the LED continually switch from orange to green, indicating that this process is working to keep your fuzz ideally bias'd for your Hendrix shredding. Just saying: Benson Amps are breaking the laws of physics. Thank you Chris! Brilliant.
