How to be Grateful

What does Scripture have to say about being grateful? It is so easy to lose sight of the blessings that God has given each of us, in times of trial and even in periods of great abundance. Join Dr. Josef Sykora as he explores four guidelines on how to be thankful given to the Israelites in the Old Testament book of Deuteronomy. While the preceding biblical book of Numbers offers lessons on learning to be content in the midst of scarcity, Deuteronomy calls the people to remember to give thanks for their blessings when they enter the Promised Land that "flows with milk and honey." If you have ever found yourself in a moment such as this, or if you encounter this in your ministry, Dr. Sykora will provide you with a new way to remind yourself and others to be thankful for God's goodness. Dr. Josef Sykora has served in senior and assistant pastoral roles, in leading spiritual retreats, and as an educator for missionaries. Currently he oversees the Doctor of Ministry program at Northeastern Seminary. On the master’s level, he teaches classes in biblical interpretation, historical theology, and biblical languages. Dr. Sykora's research interests include violence in the Scripture, theological interpretation, election in the Old Testament, and the books of Genesis, Deuteronomy, and Samuel.
