The weather today continues to be unusually warm for this time of year and the eaglets try to find shade & crawl to the rails. FSV52 the oldest eaglet is seen on the left side of the nest from the side view cam heading to the rails hoping to cool off. FSV53 will head to the right side. 54 is in the center of the nest bowl panting. Ma returns for a short stay then leaves - and returns again. 52 continued to crawl on the rails and then slid through them and fell from the nest at 10:04 timestamp in the video. The sound of the eaglet hitting the tree limbs or ground can be heard as Ma turns her head at the noise too 😢💔 Region 2 crew of CPW went to the ground below the nest tree 3.5 hours later to look for FSV52. I do not have any additional information on their findings at this time. Later in the afternoon, there were more voices here below the nest around 17:10 but it is not known why they are there. Also both FSV53 & FSV54 were stuck in the nest rails this afternoon. Ma went over to 54 and began feeding it and 53 got itself free and crawled over to Ma and got fed too. Then at 18:04 FSV54 got free from the rails too!! I will post an update as soon as more information is known. RIP sweet 52 - soar high & free with your sibling FSV55. You both gave us so much joy. You will never be forgotten. 🌈💔 ❤🐥🌌 ♾️ Tomorrow the weather will be much cooler and will remain cool for the next week. Thank you for watching! Pa FSV was captured and banded as an adult by a wildlife biologist working with the Denver International Airport - his age is unknown. What does the Fort St. Vrain bald eagle site look like? The eagles' nest (FSV-N0) is 9 x 8 feet wide, eight feet high, and 57 feet off the ground. It has a perimeter of about 26 feet, a total area of about 56 feet, and probably weighs between 2200 and 2700 pounds! The nest is located in a cottonwood on the banks of the St. Vrain River near Platteville, CO, on property owned by Xcel Energy. We’re not sure how old it is, but Bob Anderson and Rob MacIntyre put the first cam system up in 2003, when the nest was already well established. FSV-N0 is built primarily of cottonwood branches (the dominant tree in many river systems out west) and lined with prairie grass. After the primary limb supporting the nest fell in August of 2020, RRP Director John Howe worked with Xcel Energy to put up a new bionic limb and restore the nest. The eagles gave it their seal of approval just a few days later!
