Departure Statement for the 46th ASEAN Summit, 2nd ASEAN-GCC Summit and ASEAN-GCC-China Economic Summit in Malaysia Villamor Air Base, Pasay City May 25, 2025 President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. delivers a statement at the Villamor Air Base in Pasay City as he departs to participate in the 46th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from May 26 to 27, 2025. The President will join fellow ASEAN Leaders in advancing regional cooperation, addressing shared challenges, and promoting this year’s Summit theme of ‘Inclusivity and Sustainability.’ Discussions will center on key issues such as economic integration, maritime security, climate change, digital transformation and others. President Marcos Jr. is scheduled to participate in several Leaders’ engagements including the Plenary and Retreat Sessions. He will also take part in meetings with the ASEAN Business Advisory Council (BAC), ASEAN Youth representatives and ASEAN Parliamentarians, strengthening multi-sector collaboration across the Region. In conjunction with the 46th ASEAN Summit, he is set to attend the 2nd ASEAN-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit and the inaugural ASEAN-GCC-China Economic Summit which offer a unique opportunity for government and business leaders from the three (3) fast-growing regions — Southeast Asia, the Gulf and China — to share insights on the increasing complex economic and geopolitical landscape. Furthermore, the Chief Executive will hold bilateral talks with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and other ASEAN Leaders to reinforce regional ties and explore areas for expanded cooperation. Since taking office in 2022, President Marcos Jr. has been actively participating in ASEAN-related engagements, underscoring the Philippines’ active role in shaping ASEAN’s collective vision for peace, resilience and sustainable development.
