Often I feel that the storytellers are trying to wrap up the story in a neat bundle, and have some fun at the end to leave on a positive note. But often it's to the detriment of the story. But not with Monster's Inc. It offers a beautiful lesson in resolving a character's arc, ending a story on a positive note while our hearts beg for more. Really I actually want to talk about the epilogue rather than the ending of a story, and the familiar formulaic endings that we seem time and time again in Animated Features.
