This episode is the season finale for us at Catherine Cameron, as we are taking a short break from filming. We would like to thank all of our viewers for watching, although a whopping 90% are not subscribed, we have loved reading all of your comments, take care Catherine and Cameron x Chatsworth is a stately home in Derbyshire, the seat of the Duke of Devonshire, belonging to the Cavendish family since 1549. It stands on the bank of the River Derwent and Wye valleys in parkland backed by wooded hills. The original Tudor mansion was built in the 1560's by Bess of Harwick in a quadrangle layout with the main entrance on the west front with four towers and a great hall, where the Painted Hall remains the focus of the house today. The south and east fronts were rebuilt to the designs of William Talman and completed in 1696 for William Cavendish, 1st Duke of Devonshire in the style of English Baroque architecture. The south front are a 19th century replacement of an elegant curved double staircase, the emphasis placed on the end bays, each highlighted by double pairs of pilasters projecting outward. The 6th Duke built a gatehouse at the end of the house which is now the visitors entrance.The interiors are a collection of different styles and many of the rooms are recognisable as of one main period. The house attracts about 600,000 visitors a year and a £32.7 million restoration project known as the Masterplan was completed in 2018, with the project overseen by the Duke and Duchess and the Chatsworth House Trust.
