Showroom Sessions: Coracle and Lark

Live performances by Coracle and Lark in the Patchwerks showroom. Coracle is one of many aliases of Northern California multi-instrumentalist Owen Powell. Coming from a jazz background, Powell made a hard pivot to synthesis in his early twenties. Taking heavy inspiration from 90s Jungle/DnB and ambient greats such as Tangerine Dream, he aims to send the listener to mysterious musical realms. Running the gamut from draconic soundscapes to modulated breakbeat mayhem, Coracle crafts patches as evocative as they are rhythmically dense. The wandering patterns, haunted melodies, schmearing textures, and whimsical chirps intend to tell a story or transport you to another world. Karl, a dual-citizen of South Africa and United States, spent most of his life in Indiana feeling caught between two different cultures and eventually embracing his own uniqueness instead of pondering why he was so weird. His music is a reflection of this as he combines genres between Ambient, Folk, Psychedelic, and Electronic to create pulsing, dark, light, playful, and out there sounds. Karl studied Sound Design and Film Production at Indiana University where his music influences were greatly shaped and morphed by composers who elicit emotion with a cinematic flair. It was in college when Karl's love for hardware and music gear was also ignited. A knack for the abstract is present in Karl's work, but there's also a light-heartedness laid back nature to it all. "Oh a 'Lark' is a songbird? That's cool. I was just trying to jumble up the letters of my name" -Lark https://www.patchwerks.com Video By: Stephen Ly 0:00 Coracle 22:24 Lark
