Changing Manual Transmission Oil

How to remove and change the gear oil in a Subaru manual transmission. The vehicle in this video is a 2009 Subaru Outback EJ 2.5L/5MT Revised, but this process with be the same or nearly the same for most all Subaru vehicles with 5 or 6 speed manual transmissions (Legacy, Impreza, WRX, STI, Forester, Outback, etc). For this process you will need an appropriate tool to remove the drain plug. On this Subaru it was a T70 Torx bit on a 1/2" ratchet. Yours may have an Allen key fitting or even a hex fitting. You will also need new fluid to put in the transmission. Some manufacturers will require specific manual transmission oil, but most will utilize gear oil. In this case I am using 80w90 and have chose the WalMart brand of oil - SuperTech. It is extremely important that you do not get gear oil with SIMILITED SLIP ADDATIVE. These gear oils are for differential equipped with a limited slip. Most manual transmissions do not have transmission gear oil filters, but you can Google your specific model of vehicle.
