Learn to knit in the round using various techniques in this Knit Picks tutorial. Whether its using Double Pointed Needles, fixed circular, or the magic loop, this tutorial breaks it down for you. This Knit Picks tutorial goes over four methods for knitting a hat body in the round. The first method demonstrates knitting in the round on 16" circular knitting needles. This method is used for a knitting a hat body, but another technique should be used while decreasing for the crown or smaller circumference projects. The second method is knitting in the round using the magic loop technique, as well as the traveling loop technique (also known as half magic loop or lazy loop). The magic loop technique is great for knitting in any circumference, because you can use a long circular needle to knit both large and small circumferences, including very small circumferences like hat crowns, socks, cuffs, or sleeves. The third method shows you how to knit in the round using the two circulars technique. This technique involves knitting half of your stitches on one needle, then the other half of your stitches on the second needle. Choose two sets of long circulars that are visually different from each other in order to easily keep track of each set of needles as you knit. The last technique shows you how to knit in the round using double pointed needles, also known as DPNs. Also ideal for projects that change in circumference (like hats), these needles offer an easy way to change the diameter of your project as you knit.
