How to Create a Digital Mood-board. A mood board is a visual tool that helps you communicate your design concepts and ideas. It used to be interior designers who prepared physical mood boards for their clients with actual paint samples, fabric samples, and images attached to physical boards. But this can be adapted to become digital using different software such as Canva. Step 1: You will need to create a mind map of all your ideas, inspiration and sources. In this mind map, you could include fashion designers, Patterns, Style icons, fashion trends, garment shapes and fabrics. This will allow you to use this as a baseline to start your primary and secondary research for collecting items for your mood boards. Step 2: Collecting items: this can be anything and everything that has a clear link to your vision. Primary Sources could include photographs, drawings, and found objects. Secondary Sources could include Books, Magazines, Instagram, TikTok, Pinterest, fashion blogs, and shop websites. Step 3: Now, you have created a mindmap for baselines of your ideas and inspiration. You have researched and collected different aspects to place onto the mood board. The next step would be to put them all onto your mood board, play around with how you place them, and have fun seeing the link between all the different ideas coming into one new idea. Using Canva: 1. First, create a free account (if you haven't already) and sign into Canva. Select a “canvas” to work on. Choose a Canvas around A4 or A3 size. to give you plenty of room for your designs and images. 2. Save all of your images on your computer. Be sure that images of all of the items you want to use in your design are saved to a folder on your computer where you can easily access them. 3. Upload your images to Canva. Now, upload all of the photos you saved to Canva by clicking and dragging them to the “uploads” section of Canva. 4. Place your images onto your digital canvas. 5. Next, drag and drop each item onto your canvas one at a time. You can resize your images by clicking and dragging the corners. You can also use the crop and rotate tools to make any adjustments. 6. Adjust until you are happy with your mood board. 7. Move and resize things around until you are happy with your design. 8. Download or share your mood board. When you are done, you can click “Share” in the upper right-hand corner of your screen. Then, you can share the design with someone using their email address, or you can download your design and save it to your computer.
