General Assembly could, in a matter of days, vote on a draft resolution that would recommend to the Security Council the need for its favourable reconsideration of the State of Palestine's application for full membership of the United Nations. The GA draft expresses deep regret at the veto by the United States that blocked a widely supported resolution in the Council on April 18th that would have paved the way for Palestine's full UN membership. In the absence of such a favourable decision by the Council, where the dynamics have not shifted since the veto, the GA draft would also afford Palestine additional rights and privileges within the U.N. but without any voting rights.
