CAT which is also known as The Common Admission Test is a computer-based test taken by the prestigious Indian Institute of Management for providing admission into its PGP and Fellowship programs. Besides IIMs more than 1000 Management Institutes across India like the Indian Institute of Technology’s and Indian Institute of Sciences etc. also provide admission to their Management programs on the basis of the CAT Exam. held in India. The test is conducted every year by one of the IIMs based on a policy of rotation. What are the eligibility conditions to take the CAT exam? The candidate who holds a Bachelor's Degree with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA from a recognized Board are eligible to take the CAT exam. The candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and Differently Able categories need at least 45% marks. Candidates appearing for the final year of Bachelor's degree or equivalent examination and those who have already completed degree examinations but are awaiting results are also eligible. Such candidates, if qualified, will be allowed to join the course conditionally, only if they produce a certificate. The percentage of marks will be calculated based on the calculation pattern followed by the concerned University/Institution. There is no age bar to appear in CAT exam. What is the syllabus of CAT exam? CAT syllabus includes three subjects: Quantitative Ability (QA) Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (DILR) and Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension (VARC). In Quantitative ability questions from Mensuration, Number System, Geometry, Algebra and Time and Work, etc. will be asked In Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning questions from Tables, Graphs, Seating Arrangement, Blood Relation, Syllogism, Data Case lets, etc will be asked wherein In Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension, there will RC passages-based questions, sentence completion, Para-jumbles & Para-summary, inferences. CAT exam pattern CAT exam is a computer-based test consisting of three sections Quantitative Ability (QA) Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (DILR) and Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension (VARC). Quantitative ability sections consist of 34 questions having 102 marks and to be completed in 1 Hrs time. Data interpretation & Logical Reasoning section consists of 32 questions again to be completed in 1 Hrs time and having 96 marks. Whereas Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension having 34 questions carrying 102 marks and again to be completed in 1 Hrs. time. In a nutshell CAT exam consisting of a total of three sections having 100 questions and carrying 300 marks and is to be completed in 3 Hrs time. However, each section is allotted 1 Hr. to be completed. The questions in the test are a mixed bag of multiple-choice and non-multiple-choice types. There will be a negative marking of 1 mark in the multiple-choice type of questions. Whereas there will not be any kind of negative marking in a non-multiple-choice type of questions. Here you have to keep one thing in mind is that although the syllabus of the CAT exam remains more or less the same every year there can be a slight change in the number of questions asked from different sections. How to apply for the CAT exam? To apply for the CAT exam you need to follow 3 steps: Step 1: Go to the official CAT i.e. www.iimcat.ac.in .Click on CAT registration, Enter your name, date of birth, email ID, phone number and nationality than by clicking on “GENERATE OTP” and on successful registration, an OTP will be sent to your mobile number and then verify your registration by entering the OTP in the given field. Step 2: Fill your application form in which you have to enter your personal details like name, date of birth, father’s name, category, gender, Nationality, address, communication number, Email Id, etc. Your academics, work experience, test city, programs, and payment. Step 3: The third and last step in CAT registration is payment of application fee. After giving all the details, the candidates are required to click on 'save and continue' to proceed to the fee payment window. CAT application fee can be paid online through internet banking or credit/debit card. What is the registration fee for the CAT exam?
