Carlos Adames (DOMINICAN) vs. Sergiy Derevyanchenko (UKRAINE) | Boxing Fight Highlights

Sergiy Derevyanchenko endured yet another narrow defeat on Sunday night when Carlos Adames, starting strong, weathered Derevyanchenko’s comeback in the second half of their bout. Adames secured a majority decision victory in their 10-round middleweight clash on the Gervonta Davis-Issac Cruz undercard at Staples Center. Despite Judge Jerry Cantu scoring the contest a draw at 95-95, judges Tiffany Clinton (97-93) and Damian Walton (96-93) awarded Adames the win. Derevyanchenko, a recognized middleweight contender, is considered smaller for the division. Adames, making his debut at 160 pounds, claimed victory in this match against the 36-year-old Derevyanchenko. This marked Derevyanchenko's return to the ring since his defeat to Jermall Charlo in September 2020 for the WBC middleweight title. Despite Derevyanchenko's reputation as a top middleweight, he has now lost four of his last five fights. Prior to Adames and Charlo, he suffered a split decision loss to Daniel Jacobs in October 2018 and a close unanimous decision defeat to Gennadiy Golovkin in the October 2019 BoxingScene.com "Fight of the Year." Throughout the 10th round, Derevyanchenko and Adames exchanged powerful blows, mostly on the inside, in a back-and-forth battle. The fight went to the judges, as neither boxer managed to significantly hurt the other. The action intensified in the ninth round, with both fighters exchanging left hooks and powerful punches. Adames landed a notable left hook early in the round, but neither fighter could secure a clear advantage. In the eighth round, Derevyanchenko connected with a left and then a right, while Adames responded with two flush right hands. The seventh round saw Derevyanchenko pressuring Adames, outworking him despite Adames standing his ground. Derevyanchenko continued to showcase his aggression in the sixth round, although he couldn't land as many clean punches as in the previous round. The fifth round featured Derevyanchenko landing several hard right hands, a left hook that wobbled Adames, and an intense exchange of power punches. In the fourth round, Adames essentially tackled Derevyanchenko, leading to both fighters crashing to the canvas. Adames snapped back Derevyanchenko's head with a powerful right hand. Derevyanchenko struggled to land clean punches in the third round as Adames switched back to his orthodox stance. The second round saw Adames using a southpaw stance initially, landing a stiff jab and a straight left. Derevyanchenko countered with a right that backed Adames into the ropes. In the opening round, Adames landed a left uppercut and a straight left. With this victory in the WBC middleweight elimination match, Adames earned the right to face Mexico’s Jamie Munguia in a final eliminator. The winner of the Munguia-Adames bout would then receive a mandated shot at Jermall Charlo’s 160-pound title. #action #fight #fighter #CarlosAdames #SergiyDerevyanchenko #boxing #boxingvideos #boxingnews #boxingday #boxingworkout #boxinglife #sportsnews #actionsports #combat #combatsports #highlights #sporthighlights #action #punch #punching #fight #fighting #benavidez #benavidezplant #knockoutpower #middleweight #davidbenavidez #mexican #americansports #jermallcharlo #supermiddleweight #boxingmatch #boxingfight #lightweight #dominican #dominicano #ukraine #ukrainian
