WP File Manager Vulnerability 2020 + File Manager ALTERNATIVES In August 2020, a vulnerability in the the WP File Manager plugin was exploited, affecting over 700,000 websites with the active plugin and allowing hackers to gain access to the sites and inject malicious code. 2 of my marketing clients were affected. One of them asked for my help, and I took 2 hours out of my time to remove the infection. (I'm not an IT guy or a web developer -- this is just a passion of mine.) The File Manager plugin lets you upload files directly to the web server from within your WordPress admin dashboard. However, even though it's been patched, YOU DON'T NEED IT. I certainly don't use it! The safest option is to delete it. After all, according to another video I just saw, there have been a total of 1.7 MILLION recorded attacks just from bots looking for the File Manager plugin. And that's just recorded. There are more.
