ORION Soumik Datta & Bernhard Schimpelsberger "CIRCLE OF SOUND" Soumik Datta - Sarod & Ambient Sound Design; Bernhard Schimpelsberger - Drums, Cajon, Percussion And Vocal Percussion Featuring: Talvin Singh - Tabla, Manu Delago - Hang & Pirashanna Thevarajah - Morsing download the full song from itunes: http://itunes.apple.com/gb/album/id50... Conceived as a multi-media show during an artist residency at the Alchemy festival at London's South Bank Centre, Circle of Sound is as dramatic and rounded a piece of work as is possible for a duo to make. In fact it is difficult to remember at times that it is primarily a duo album. As each track enfolds you are drawn into a conversation that is constantly changing and renewing, coming at you from all sides - you are in a 'Circle of Sound'. This ability to create immersive music from limited resources (in terms of the instrumentation) is not just a product of studio trickery (although the album is beautifully produced, with a big, warm sound). A glance at the video below will demonstrate the energy, commitment and joy in playing generated by Soumik and Bernhard. That this Indian- Austrian duo is London based is testament yet again to the extraordinary cultural diversity of the city. The album (and Talvin's input is no accident here) is also an expression of the cultural invention and a contemporary insight into the sounds of South Asian music. But in the end national and cultural boundaries are there to be burst open and Circle of Sound "Circle of Sound" is released under Baithak Records which continues its ongoing quest to bring together the worlds of Indian music, electronica, narrative and film.
