Island Of The Dolls | Isla de las Muñecas | Julián Santana Barrera

There's always something thrilling about a place with a mysterious past. Deep inside the canals of Xochimilco in Mexico, there's an island covered with decaying old dolls strung up on trees giving the island an unsettling appearance. But it's the story of this island that is even more dark and disturbing. Julián Santana Barrera was born in 1921 and moved to this island during the 1950s. It is not exactly clear why he decided to move to this isolated island, despite having a wife and family. Some say he was not of a sound mind.  His life experiences had also made him a recluse. One day, when he was fishing from the bank of his island, he saw a girl swimming in the water. She got entangled among the Lillies of the canal and started drowning in the water. Unfortunately, he wasn't able to save the girl in time and she drowned right by his island. Later, he also came across a doll not very far from the spot where he found the girl. He assumed that the doll belonged to her and in order to appease her spirit, he hung the doll on a tree.  Soon thereafter, Julian claimed that he felt the presence of a spirit and started hearing voices and whispers around him. He decided that the island was probably haunted and the spirit of the girl was not satisfied with just one doll. So he decided to get more dolls on the island. He started collecting dolls that came floating down the river. At times, he sold some of his farm produce in exchange for dolls. Later, the doll collection became an obsession and he started scouring through trash to find more dolls to hang on his island. Some of them were already broken and abandoned by their previous owners. Julian never fixed any of the dolls he found and as a result, many of them are missing limbs or eyes or other parts. Having been there for decades, their clothes are decaying and rotting and some of them are homes to insects that crawl out of their eyes and face giving them a very creepy appearance. Over the years, the dolls are also covered in dirt and cobwebs. All of these factors make this island look like something straight out of a horror movie. In 2001, Julian passed away from a heart attack. Strangely his body was found drowned in the exact spot he always said he had seen the little girl years ago. Whether he actually found the girl's body is a mystery and many people including Julian's own family didn't believe he actually saw her. Whether he made it up or just imagined the whole experience or was mistaken is unclear. But he devoted his entire life to her and his actions were innocent and admirable. Many people also believe that Julian has joined the other spirits on the island. The bizarre story of the island has made it a tourist spot. Some tourists have claimed of hearing whispers and felt as if the eyes of the dolls were following them. Some of the people who have visited the island have also hung their own dolls as a sign of respect for the girl and Don Julian himself. It is estimated that there are more than 1500 dolls on the island, earning it the name The Island Of The Dolls or La Isla de las Muñecas.  It's strange to imagine that the dolls that belonged to little kids and brought joy to their lives ended up on this desolate island with an nightmarish look.  Each and every one of the dolls would have a story to tell if they had the ability to talk. And if some stories are to be believed, they probably do. ----------------------------------------------------------- Recommended Products (Amazon):- Microphone: https://amzn.to/3UoWAHY Camera Main: https://amzn.to/3GuUQHu Microphone Stand: https://amzn.to/3zLu6yE External Hard Disk: https://amzn.to/3Gxdyy1 ----------------------------------------------------------- Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research.
