It is a result of diffuse alveolar and capillary inflammation and subsequent damage and leads to hypoxemia and heavy, stiff, non-compliant lungs. In this lesson we review over this info, including the Berlin Definition of ARDS and then dive into the pathophysiology, starting with what we would expect with a normal healthy lung. From there I talk about the changes we expect to see with the alveoli and capillaries and the problems that result. I also hit on the pulmonary hypertension and in recovery the pulmonary fibrosis that we can see leading to long to effects.
