Levels of Biological Organization

Join this channel to get access to perks:    / @joedelyncruz   Levels of Biological Organization is the arrangement of the hierarchy of biological structures and systems. The biological hierarchy starts from the smallest level, and extends to a higher level. CELL Cell is the smallest structural and functional unit of living organisms. It can be eukaryotic cell that contains nucleus like animal cell, plant cell, red blood cell, sperm cell and egg cell, or it can be prokaryotic cell without nucleus inside it, like bacterial cell. TISSUE Tissue is a group of cells that have similar structure and function. The examples of tissues are muscle tissue that produces movement, connective tissue that connects tissues together, epithelial tissue that covers body surfaces and nervous tissue that receives and sends signals to the brain. ORGAN Organ is a group of different tissues performing similar function. The examples of organs are heart, brain, lungs, and eye. On the other hand, the examples of plant organs are leaf, stem and roots. ORGAN SYSTEM Organ System is a group of organs that work together to perform one or more functions. The examples are respiratory system that we use for breathing; digestive system for digesting food, nervous system for controlling every system, and urinary system for eliminating waste. Moreover, the plant organ systems are shoot system that consists of leaves and stems; and root system that composes of roots. ORGANISMS Organism is the individual living thing that is made up of one or more organ systems. The examples of organisms are human, horse, insect, fish and banana plant. POPULATION Population is a group of organisms of one species that live in the same area at the same time. The examples of populations are human population, lion population, dolphin population, coconut population and butterfly population. COMMUNITY Community is a group of populations of different species living in the same place at the same time. The examples of communities are forest community, aquarium community, dessert community, and tundra community. ECOSYSTEM Ecosystem contains all the communities that interact in their physical environment. The examples of ecosystems are forest ecosystem, marine ecosystem, grassland ecosystem, and dessert ecosystem. BIOSPHERE Biosphere contains all ecosystems on Earth where life exists. It is the sphere of life. *The levels of biological organization from the lowest to highest are cells, tissues, organs, organ systems, organisms, population, community, ecosystem, and biosphere.
