The words NO horse owner ever wants to hear... Jason pulled in the driveway, jumped out of the truck and said, “Our wild mustang is loose!!” Instantly, my stomach dropped. Sure enough — Rooster, our 3-year-old wild mustang from the Twin Peaks HMA, had somehow gotten through the fence and was loose on the neighbors property... completely free. No gates to keep him there. After spending the last 30 days building trust, working on haltering, leading, and basic groundwork, I could only hope that we had done enough to be able to catch him before things got dangerous. This is the reality of working with a wild mustang... things don’t always go as planned. How did he get out? Would he let us catch him? Or would all of our progress disappear in a split second?
