Architecture & Philosophy 2025 #6 Dulmini Perera - Gregory Bateson

Architecture & Philosophy 2025 #6 Dulmini Perera - Gregory Bateson Gregory Bateson (1904-1980) was a British anthropologist, social scientist, linguist, and systems thinker—best known for his work across disciplines like anthropology, cybernetics, psychology, and ecology. He had a deep interest in how systems (like minds, societies, or ecosystems) communicate and organize themselves. Dr. Dulmini Perera is Associate Professor of architectural theory at the University of Limerick. Before, she was a scientific staff member in the Theory and History of Modern Architecture Department at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. Dulmini’s research focuses on the complex systemic relations between ecological questions and questions concerning technology within the context of architecture and design. She is particularly interested in histories and theories that emerge from architecture(design)'s encounters with other disciplines that engage with complex living systems (particularly cybernetics, systems sciences and philosophy of technology) and the ways in which the social, political aspects of these encounters keep influencing our present-day knowledge and practice models. 🔹 Guest Speaker: Dulmini Perera (University of Limerick) 🔹 Date: April 6, 2025 🔹 Time: 10 AM EDT 🔹 Live on YouTube: DigitalFUTURES YouTube Channel
