To illustrate this point, Len shares the story of Orizema Cruz Pina, a 27-year-old IBM employee who volunteers for the Library's Partners in Reading program, which assists adults in developing their literacy skills, and her 50-year-old father, Constancio Cruz, who is currently participating in the Library's Career Online High School and will graduate with a high school diploma in six months. The San Jose Public Library faces a funding gap that threatens to cut or downsize over 30 vital programs, including adult literacy, workforce development, and community engagement. The San Jose Public Library Foundation aims to raise $7 million annually to bridge this gap and ensure that all programs remain free.
