Interest rates won't be coming down 'any time soon,' Bain Capital Senior Adviser says

The Federal Reserve is no longer expected to cut interest rates at its March meeting, but May is still on the table. Bain Capital Senior Adviser of Private Equity Stephen Pagliuca tells Yahoo Finance's Brad Smith that there has been some "over-exuberance around cuts." Between wars and China's slowing economy, Pagliuca explains that the US has become a "safe haven for investments," describing the US economy as "the most stable economy out there." When it comes to the 2024 election, Pagliuca notes that the US has "gone into a period of polarization" and that he hopes "that we'll come back to some sanity in the middle" where politicians actually focus on getting things done. Pagliuca, who is also Founder, Chairman and CEO of The PagsGroup, says that when it comes to AI, it will be "as big as the internet, maybe bigger, in terms of productivity. So, there's going to be a lot of winners and losers." Though he calls the space "a very interesting area to invest into," he cautions that some valuations have gotten "out of control" due to the hype surrounding the technology. In his role as Co-owner of the Boston Celtics, Pagliuca calls sports a "very, very valuable" asset given the demand for "compelling" content from internet companies and both new and traditional media outlets. When asked about the streaming industry, Pagliuca says he does expect more consolidation in the streaming business over the next 3-5 years given how costly it is for people to maintain subscriptions to multiple services.
