The best of 2017 at Auckland Zoo

Happy New Year! We've collected some of our highlights of 2017 to share with you. So much has happened this year! We’ve contributed to conversation efforts in New Zealand – from our work with kiwi and takahē on Rotoroa Island NZ, our breed and release of well over one thousand wētāpunga just this year alone and the paddling of precious whio chicks that were born at our zoo and released to a Department of Conservation facility in Turangi. We’ve also contributed to conservation overseas through our support of Red Panda Network, Sumatran Orangutan Conservation Programme (SOCP), Giraffe Conservation Foundation, 21st Century Tiger, Cheetah Outreach, Lowveld Rhino Trust and The Biodiversity and Elephant Conservation Trust and the work they do for some of the world’s most endangered wildlife. Our dedicated vet team have been busy too! From their work with Kākāpō Recovery on Whenua Hou (Codfish Island) to providing medical assistance to a range of New Zealand native species that have arrived at our New Zealand Centre for Conservation Medicine (NZCCM) – such as little penguin rescue Ohope and the green turtles that are now swimming happily at Sea Life Kelly Tarlton's!
