Russia. After the invasion began, they were effectively shut off from the Western world. Flights between Europe and Russia were halted. Trade was stopped. Most border crossings were closed. And yet I found myself at one of the few crossings that remained open: Narva, in far eastern Estonia. I had never been to Russia, and as an American, now definitely wasn't the best time to change that. But no one knows what the future may hold. I was on a trip across Eurasia, and there was no way I could just ignore the world's largest country. I spent a month getting the visa, and worked on my Russian for half a year. This is the first chapter of my journey across Russia to the Far East. I was beyond nervous.
